Preparing for your parenting journey, and finding acceptance with unexpected challenges, will ensure you are able to offer your pēpi a loving, kind, patient, informed and supported start to life. This will help you create a securely attached bond between yourself and your pēpi.
Secure attachment to primary caregivers is imperative for pēpi to support healthy development and learning. All babies, including premature babies (cleared of medical concerns), and babies of caregivers experiencing post-natal depression and anxiety can be supported through caregiver-pēpi play sessions with the psychologist's guidance.
Remote support can be offered via telehealth and video. Please note, sessions are intended to run alongside Plunkett services which are highly recommended for all whānau.
Are you struggling with your new identity as a parent, feeling isolated and unsure of who you have become. Are you feeling conflicted between intense love for your child and feelings of anxiety, sadness, frustration, and disconnection. Are you longing for your old life back, finding it difficult to cope or finding it difficult to connect with your child.
If you are struggling as a new parent and would like more support, we offer sessions to support all new and experienced parents. Please note, if you suspect you are experiencing post-natal depression or post-natal psychosis, please seek medical support and Plunkett services in the first instance. Psychology support can be offered in collaboration with your medical professional and Plunkett services.
Parenting a newborn pēpi in the fourth trimester, an emerging crawler, walker and then toddler. Each stage comes with its own set of joys and difficulties. Just when you think you have got on top of the feeding, sleeping, or settling needs, they change again.
We offer parent telehealth sessions, or caregiver-pēpi play sessions to support parenting 0-2 year olds. Sessions may include a focus on secure attachment, settling, sleep and feeding support, early play and communication skills, behaviour and development, and general infant to toddler challenges. Please note, sessions are intended to run in addition to Plunkett services.
